Prayer has always been part of the story of Helping Hands Orphanage.
In fact, prayer and people being willing to step out in faith are part of the reason Helping Hands exists today.
After the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Pastor Pedro saw boys who desperately needed a safe place to call home. He believed God was calling him to do something about it. There wasn’t a large organization or a pile of money waiting to make it happen. There was faith, prayer, and a willingness to take the next step.
God provided.
Years later, Helping Hands Orphanage continues to provide a loving Christian home for boys in Barahona, Dominican Republic. And the tradition of prayer that helped begin this ministry continues with the next generation.
How Can We Pray For You?
Prayer Is Part of Our Daily Life
Around 8:30 each morning, before the activities of the day begin, our Helping Hands family gathers for devotions and prayer.
We thank God for His blessings. We pray about our needs. We pray for the boys, our staff, our families and the people God has placed in our lives.
Most importantly, we’re teaching our boys that prayer isn’t something reserved for Sunday morning.
Prayer is part of everyday life.
The Bible tells us:
“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
James 5:16
We’ve seen that truth lived out at Helping Hands.
We’ve seen God provide when we didn’t know where the answer would come from. We’ve seen doors open. We’ve seen lives change. And we’ve seen boys who came to Helping Hands facing difficult circumstances begin to understand that God loves them and has a purpose for their lives.
The Bible Is Filled With People Who Prayed
Throughout Scripture, ordinary people faced situations that seemed impossible and turned to God.
Hannah prayed when her heart was broken, and God answered her prayer. 1 Samuel 1:10–20
When Peter was imprisoned, the church gathered and prayed earnestly for him. God intervened and Peter walked out of the prison. Acts 12:5–17
Elijah prayed, and God demonstrated His power. 1 Kings 18:36–39
Jesus Himself regularly withdrew from the crowds to spend time in prayer with His Father. Luke 5:16
And Paul reminds us that when we’re worried or facing circumstances beyond our control, our first response should be prayer:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Philippians 4:6
Prayer doesn’t mean that every situation will turn out exactly the way we want. It means that we bring our needs to a God who loves us, hears us and can work in circumstances far beyond what we can accomplish ourselves.
How Can We Pray for You?
We don’t want to only ask people to pray for Helping Hands.
We want to pray for you too.
